Vehicle options:
You will drive your own rented 4×4 vehicle with the guidance of your well-experienced tour guide.
Our fleet consists of late Toyota Hilux and Land cruisers; renowned for their reliability in the harsh African conditions. Options include Single cab 4x4s suitable for 2 persons, double cab 4x4s suitable for 4 persons. These are:
- 5 speed manual gearbox vehicles with low range, front and rear diff –locks, built for serious 4×4 capability.
- Fitted with radio and CD player
- Air-conditioning
- Airbags
- Bull bar and replacement rear bumper
- 2 x spare wheels
- Power steering and ABS brakes and minimal electronics
- Expellant load space and spacious cabin for comfortable seating
- Fitted with a dual battery system, a 12V air compressor to keep tires at right capacity and LED lights
Petrol and diesel:
A pre-calculated amount of diesel or petrol will be provided depending on the vehicle used and estimated kilometres planned for the trip. Anything extra petrol or diesel will be for your own account or charged extra at market related rates.
This will all be confirmed once booking has been made.
Hiring a 4×4 vehicle in Africa becomes more and more popular every day. We would recommend this option above all, because you would have first-hand experience in driving the African off-road, with the help of our professional and well experienced guides. You would be fully responsible for your vehicle and the condition when returning the vehicle. African Firefly Safari’s will do all the arrangements around the renting of the requested vehicles. We would transport you to and from the pick-up and drop-off of the vehicles.
Included in option 1:
- One 2 man tent: rooftop or normal ground canvas tent. (One rooftop tent for single cab and two rooftop tents for double cab, if needed and requested)
- Fridge / freezer (included in traveling option 1 and 2 only)
- 60 litre water tank.
- All cutlery and crockery suited for camping conditions.
- Camping chairs and fold-up table.
- Collapsible basin and bucket.
- A stretcher/matrass, sleeping bag and a pillow.
- Mobile portal potty toilet on request.
- Two way radios fitted for communication with tour guide and other companions on tour.
A well-experienced driver will drive around you from the first to the last day, allowing you to have the full 4×4 African experience while sitting back and enjoying the ride.
We also offer an option for those individuals that would like to have the 4×4 experience, but do not feel confident enough to drive the vehicle themselves. We can arrange a qualified and confident chauffeur if required that will safely transport you from the first pick-up to the last drop-off.
Being chauffeured around Africa can be very relaxing and an unforgettable experience. Having the 4×4 experience, is what you want. This will give you the best definition of THE African Safari experience.
All you would do is sit back and relax.

Drive in your own 4×4 vehicle.
You are more than welcome to join any of our trips with your own 4×4 vehicle. You would be fully responsible for the condition and upkeep of your own vehicle. Depending on your choice of tour we will provide you with an average amount of Petrol/diesel and anything extra will be for your account or you will be charged per litre at market related rates.

Training:
Firefly African Safari’s tour guide will teach you how to use the 4×4 capabilities of your self-drive vehicle before we leave on tour and help you with useful tips while on tour.
